[Least aspected Neptune]

That there is such a distinct species of love melancholy, no man hath ever yet doubted: but whether this subdivision of Religious Melancholy be warrantable, it may be controverted. I have no pattern to follow as in some of the rest, no man to imitate. No physician hath as yet distinctly written of it as of the other; all acknowledge [it] is a most notable symptom, some a cause, but few a species or kind.
–Robert Burton, from “Religious Melancholy. Its object God; what his beauty is; How it allures. The parts and parties affected.”

Robert Burton

Author of Anatomy of Melancholy (1621)–a classic literary tome on the varieties of “spiritual longing” (Primary Neptune)–Robert Burton was born in Lindley, Leicestershire, England, and lived his entire life in the Oxford / Leicestershire area. As we can see in his astrocartography, Primary Neptune is positioned in a vertical, midnight position just west of England. Neptune rules the “mystical” orientation of this astrologer-vicar and of his writing. Burton even devoted a section of his influential Anatomy to the especial phenomenon of “Religious Melancholy” (Neptune).
