[Least-aspected Venus] [Pluto]
“Educator” (Secondary Mercury) Maria Montessori was born in Chiaravalle, Italy, near the rising position of her Primary Venus, which curves along the western coast of Italy. Her equally underaspected Primary Pluto runs in a vertical, Midheaven position over the eastern Mediterranean, thereby framing Italy in a wide Pluto / Venus Transcendental Midpoint-Field.
Combined with Secondary Mercury and Tertiary Moon, Montessori’s Transcendentals fittingly describe her life’s work. Applying “creative solutions and methodologies / to education” (Primary Venus / Secondary Mercury), and utilizing “tactile, sensual materials” (Venus), she worked to “rehabilitate” (Primary Pluto) mentally retarded “children” (Tertiary Moon).
The first woman to receive a medical degree in Italy, Montessori worked as an assistant doctor at the University of Rome’s “psychiatric clinic” (Primary Pluto), where she developed an interest in working with the developmentally challenged. After focusing on “educational / rehabilitation” (Secondary Mercury / Primary Pluto), she opened her first Casa dei Bambini (Children’s House), where she applied her “creative / educational techniques” (Primary Venus / Secondary Mercury) to “young children” (Tertiary Moon) of so-called normal intelligence.
Montessori initiated the use of “tactile and aesthetically pleasing materials” (Primary Venus), such as numbered beads, cylinders, and specially shaped pieces of wood to encourage left-to-right eye movement in preparation for reading; to teach basic math skills; and to stimulate “small-muscle development and training” (Secondary Mercury). Besides “regenerating / the creative potential / of children” (Primary Pluto / Primary Venus / Secondary Moon), her “psychologically oriented / tactile / pedagogical methods” (Pluto / Venus / Mercury) “transformed / the educational techniques” (Primary Pluto / Secondary Mercury) of her day. Traveling extensively through Europe, India, and the United States, she created “worldwide” (Primary Pluto) teaching programs and established numerous training institutes.
