[Least-aspected Sun]

Erwin Rommel’s name stands as one of the great masters of maneuver in war, one of that select company whose personalities transcend time and whose energy still communicates. The victories of these men once depended on their ability to signal their attention, impose their will, and act with alarming speed amidst the confused conditions and across the variable distances of the battlefield. In a comparable way their personalities cut like sabers through the curtains of history, penetrating to successive generations with an immediacy which quickens the blood.
–David Fraser, Knight’s Cross.

Erwin Rommel

German field marshal Erwin Rommel was born in Heidenheim, Germany, almost precisely under the Midheaven position of his Primary Sun. His “slow but steady rise” (Saturn) through the military ranks is symbolized by his Secondary Saturn, which rules “incremental, steadfast achievement” and the “gradual ascent” that results from “sustained effort and hard work.” Entering the army in 1910, Rommel was made a general by Hitler in 1939. In February 1941 he led the Afrika Korps (a specially trained tank division) into Libya, where his stunning successes against the British transformed him into a military “celebrity” (Primary Sun) and earned him the flamboyant title, the “Desert Fox.”
Rommel’s Primary Sun runs in a vertical position over Tunisia and western Libya. His North African campaign was focused entirely within the area extending from Tunis, where he made his final retreat, to Alexandria, Egypt, where he attempted his furthest military offensive. Alexandria is in the center of a wide Transcendental Midpoint-Field that extends from his Primary Sun, over the Tunisia-Libya border, to his Secondary Saturn, which sets over Saudi Arabia. This Secondary Saturn / Primary Sun pairing reflects the kind of “arduous and gradual climb / to public recognition” (Saturn / Sun) that was experienced by this “willful / and achievement-oriented / leader” (Sun / Saturn / Sun).
